Flowing in Faith-What Alcohol Ink Teaches About Trusting God

When creating with alcohol ink, there’s a quiet moment of surrender; it's the moment when you release the ink, watch it spread, and realize you’re no longer in control. The colors move where they want to go, blending and blooming in ways you could never plan.

In many ways, this is how walking with God feels. We can prepare, plan, and try to predict the outcome, but the truth is, life doesn’t always flow according to our design. And sometimes, that’s exactly where God’s artistry shows up. I'll share five examples of this that will help you to have a clearer vision of this truth.

1. Flow with God’s Plan

Alcohol ink teaches you to let go of control. The more you force the ink, the less natural the beauty. Life with God is similar---when we release our grip and trust His timing, the results are far greater than anything we could create on our own.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. — Proverbs 3:5

2. Layers of Grace

Each layer of ink adds depth and richness, much like the layers of our journey. Some seasons may fade quietly into the background; others will stand out boldly. But every layer has purpose; even the ones that felt messy while we are in them.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him. — Romans 8:28

3. Beauty in Imperfection

No two pieces of alcohol ink art are ever the same. Each swirl and spill creates a one-of-a-kind story. God works the same way in our lives. He takes our imperfections, our flaws, and our mistakes and shapes them into something divinely unique.

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. — 2 Corinthians 12:9

4. Create Space for Stillness

If you oversaturate the surface, the colors lose their brilliance. The same happens when we crowd our days with too much noise. God often speaks in the stillness; in the pauses between the layers.

Be still, and know that I am God. — Psalm 46:10

5. Surrender to the Master Artist

Ultimately, creating with alcohol ink is an act of faith. You trust the process, even when you can’t see the final picture. And when you step back, you realize the outcome was never random but it was guided all along.

So as you move through the layers of your own life, remember: God is still painting. Trust His hand, even when the flow feels uncertain. The beauty of surrender is that it allows His masterpiece to shine through.

So, whether you're creating with color or just navigating a new chapter in life, remember this: "Both art and life are about showing up, staying open, and trusting the flow.
